Canterbury Hydrangeas — Returns & Refunds Policy

Our Guarantee & The New Zealand Consumer Guarantees Act (CGA)

At Canterbury Hydrangeas, we take great pride in growing and supplying high-quality flowers, foliage, plants, and bulbs. All our products come with automatic guarantees under the New Zealand Consumer Guarantees Act 1993.

If a product you receive is damaged, defective, or fails to meet the standard of acceptable quality at the time of delivery, we will absolutely make it right with a replacement, exchange, or refund.

1. Change of Mind Policy (30 Days)

Please choose carefully, as we do not offer refunds if you simply change your mind, buy the wrong color or variety by mistake, or over-ordered.

However, for non-perishable plant stock, dormant bulbs, or apparel and merchandise, we may accept a return for store credit or exchange within 30 days of receipt, provided that:

  • Plants and bulbs are unplanted, healthy, and intact.

  • Merchandise and apparel are unworn, unwashed, and in their original packaging with tags attached.

  • You have the original receipt or proof of purchase.

Please Note: Customers are responsible for the shipping costs of change-of-mind returns. Items must be safely packaged and sent to our designated return address provided via email. Items sent back to us without prior authorization will not be accepted.

2. Fresh Cut Flowers, Foliage & Perishable Goods

Because fresh-cut flowers and stems of foliage are highly perishable, they are strictly excluded from our 30-day change-of-mind return window. Once cut stems leave our farm or are dispatched via courier, they cannot be returned, cancelled, or resold.

If your fresh flowers or foliage arrive damaged or wilted due to courier transit issues, please read the Damages and Transit Issues section below.

3. Damages, Transit Issues, and Defective Items

Please inspect your flowers, foliage, plants, or bulbs immediately upon arrival. Under the CGA, we are responsible for ensuring your items arrive safely and in acceptable condition.

If your order is damaged in transit, defective, or if you received the wrong item, please contact us at hello@canterburyhydrangeas.com within 48 hours of delivery.

  • Please include your order number and clear photographs of the product and packaging.

  • This allows us to evaluate the issue immediately. If the fault lies with our stock or transit damage, we will provide a replacement or a full refund at no cost to you (including covering any necessary return shipping).

4. Important Exclusions for Live Plants & Bulbs

While we guarantee that all plants and bulbs leave our farm healthy and true-to-type, we cannot accept responsibility for product failures caused by factors outside of our control once in your care. Under the CGA, our guarantees do not apply if a product is damaged or fails due to:

  • Improper planting techniques, unsuitable soil conditions, or incorrect positioning.

  • Extreme weather events (such as frost, drought, or waterlogging in your garden).

  • Neglect, under-watering, over-watering, or pest damage after delivery.

If you are concerned about the health of a plant or bulb upon arrival, please contact us immediately before planting it so we can advise you.

5. Sale Items and Gift Cards

Unfortunately, we cannot accept returns or offer refunds on sale items or Canterbury Hydrangeas gift cards unless they fail to meet basic CGA quality standards.

6. Refunds

Once we have assessed your claim (or received and inspected your authorized physical return), we will notify you via email regarding the approval of your refund.

If approved, you will be automatically refunded via your original payment method within 10 business days. Please note that your bank or credit card provider may require additional processing time to clear the funds into your account. If more than 15 business days have passed since your refund was approved, please reach out to us at hello@canterburyhydrangeas.com.
